Here we have James’ 1979 Austin Mini 1000 Super. The car is more or less standard spec. according to James, although there have been one or two changes, and many more planned for the future. “I’ve replaced the standard seats with two that were given as a Christmas present. They came from an Opel Manta GTE and with new brackets they fit a treat. I’ve also wire brushed and cleaned the underside sub frames etc. ”
James bought his Mini from a guy in Horncastle last September, with a little help from the bank of mum and dad. As he’s still 15, he’s got plenty of time to get the car just right. Dad (John) is the current driver, but not for long!
James is obviously (and quite rightly) delighted with his Mini. “I’ve fitted and wired up two driving and two fog lamps making the brackets as well. I’ve also fitted a Sony hi-fi along with four speakers” James calls his Mini ‘Oliver’ - every Mini has to have a name, but Oliver also has a rather interesting number plate ‘ADO’. When the Mini was in the design stages, the prototype number was ADO 15.
Oliver is an ‘ongoing project’ but James certainly isn’t sitting back, “Items to do are a set of 10" Minilites which are already in the garage awaiting new tyres, engine mods including a K&N filter, possibly some engine tuning, new exhaust, new brightwork, roof lining etc etc.” Great work James!
